13/03/10. TIME
Is not on my side. Year 12 Sucks.
While I sit in school learning about proving
conjectures and reading about Brecht and his marxism,
it seems everyone else is scoring fun waves down south.
Whenever the weekend comes I get excited, to only be let
down once again when I see that the perth swell is barely
reaching 2.0m. And I cant skate either cause of my arm.
Anyway, today we picked up 'FEVER DREAM
THE MUSICAL', the new ZION video. So I think I may
as well complete a little review on how bloody good this
movie is.
First of all, I'd like to say that reviewing a video is
completely subjective (obviously). So don't get angry when you
go buy this movie and find it doesnt tickle your fancy,
but it definitely tickles mine.
The intro isnt normal, some cool shots with weird
effects and nice, soothing slow mo. Not much focus on amp
but more on 'what looks cool' and that whole new-age
artsy look. But this isnt cliche or overdone, its good.
I cant remember the order of the sections, but theres a
really nice slow mo south aus section with amazing
water footage of a sick left, combined with epic tunes of M83.
Finlay's double part section is amazing- he has really stepped
up from other productions like 'FLUX', way better style and such
smoothness that makes for a good watch. Particularly sick
BIG 540 reverse that sent him yakking on the rocks at nuggan,
and a monstrous invert on some weird brown wave. Tyler
Brockman has a section, which has some cool pop revs
and a few nice flips. Joe's section is a bit of a let down,
just small waves at blackrock and random beachies
with a few sick revs and flips here and there.
Tom Robinson's section is incredible, like finlay he has
picked up so much, gotten the best style and speed.
Amazing revs, flips, spins, barrels at blackrock and a few
other places. Mostly small waves, but thats what I like.
Gives an improved sense of his shredding- he tears
normal, everyday waves. This is the same with Sam
Bennett. As you would guess, a lot of breakwall and
flat-cregged rev hops and flips. On one wave he combines
both. His style is flawless and technical, even in waves under
4 foot. Again, it's what I like to see.
The vibe he brings to the
movie is cool, fun, and
far from serious riding.
Theres also
a bit of WA, some cool sessions at rabbits but not
much else. Jono Bruce makes a first appearance, and shreds
SA left with amazing technicality (along with tom rob).
Editing and filming is top notch, a few boring 'artsy'
super8 footage cut in between, but a good professional
vibe radiates from it all together. Unlike some other movies,
use of the
slow mo doesnt get tiresome or tedious.
Some slow-mo water footage is amazing, close up flips,
carve-arounds, pop revs in your face, and up close and
personal in the barrel.
Overall, a GREAT movie, by my opinions, with some amazing
slow mo water angles and lots of good land shots. If you were
to ask me, I'd say 'go buy it now', but if you are in look
for big tow-ins and the wipeout 'wow factor' then I dont think
the movie is for you (although some shipsterns footage is NUTS)
If you are keen on technicality, flat-cregs, rev hops and
flips (like I know the new generation is), you will be far from bored.
25/02/10.
some old stuff that i filmed before the christmas holidays last year
19/02/10. MTV SCARRED
My arm is slowly healing, I havent gotten full movement but its getting
better. I've put in a photo of my main scar for everyone to see.
I havent put in a photo of my other scar, on the outside of my
arm, as it is smaller and less impressive. However, I can feel a
metal plate in my arm- great party trick!
I've edited a skating clip but it is too big to put on any USBs that
I currently own. I'll try my best tonight when I'm not endulging
on Dominos pizza, studying, and watching Bear Grylls slay dragons.
Meanwhile, watch these two videos from 2 men that have been
working hard.
01/02/10. BRITTLE BONES BROKEN BY BOWL

The last few days for Miller Best have been spent in Fremantle hospital,
popping pills, enduring unbearable itch, pain and a huge arm cast.
On friday I was skating a relatively 'harmless' mini bowl, before
slipping out on a blunt-nosegrab-to-fakie. Saving the side of my face from
the hard concrete below, I landed with all my body weight on one
milk deprived, left arm. What followed was a snap, crunch and mangled mess.
After 000 was called I was placed in the emergency ward, breathing
copious amounts of nitrous oxide to ease the pain- as well as producing
a sedated, hazey buzz. Sitting in the hospital, with the drugs worn off,
I listened to numerous doctors and nurses whince and exclaim at the sight
of the munted and now bloody arm- apparently the bone had pierced the skin
and left an unsighted stain and pool of blood on the plasticy, solid hospital
pillows. Fast forward three days and I'm home, with an enormous sling/cast,
rwo metal plates, body full of paracetomal, and these gruesome pictures:
*Unfortunately, I'm having technical troubles getting a photo of my arm from
when the injury first happened. Hopefully soon.
29/01/10. WARP 1.62

27/01/10. STINGS
Just got back from Noosa.

A few random shots taken that have been transformed in the
'polarize' application, instantly making me feel like an uber arty
photographer.
I've also created a twitter so that I can write something whenever
I make a new post on the site, or if I'm working on something etc.
I reckon it's been worth making- considering I have 0 followers.
yahoo! http://twitter.com/millerbestmedia
The next few days should be spent prepared for school, sorting out tapes,
filming for my art project, editing, and cleaning my room. Sounds pretty sick?
Wish I was here:

21/01/10. MAWLED
Over the past week I have had the pleasure to do some apprentice work with
Mitch Rawlins, Tom Hannam and James Wise. All three are working together
making movies which primarily star the likes of Mitch, Jake, Brendo, Hardy
and more.
I filmed with their HVX200s, cameras which annihilated my own in terms of
weight, size and technicality. I eventually got a few clips at places like Supers
and Cobbles, and also managed to fit in a fisheye shoot with my own setup.
Staying with all the guys was sick fun; engaging in activities like
listening and helping out with Mitch's new site, interview questions and
kickflip dilemmas. I'll be going back to help out more during the year,
and you'll hopefully be seeing my name tossed around on Mitch's
site every now and then. In regards to my own movie, this will broader my
connections and hopefully allow for better waves and riders captured on
footage- as well as learning from the best; Tom and James.

I'm off to Noosa for a family holiday tommorow, and if I have any luck I'll get a few
snaps for the site. After that I'll be back to school, in year 12, the big year.
I'll try update as much as I can, but unlike Mitch & Tom, I don't
have infinite spare time to update my site with sick new videos and photos.
Anyway, enough plugging their god damn site, hurry up and check it out.
6/01/10. THE FINAL THIRD.
sup dowg

introduce yourself.
Jack Bunyan, 4th groyne, fifteen.
where are you from.
Auckland but I am now living in Mandurah
when did you start shooting?
About 2 & a half years ago
do you remember when you first seriously thought about
being a bodyboard photographer?
The first time I went down south I was to scared to go in at
4 foot rabbits so I took some photos and got pretty syked on it
do you remember your first shot that you were stoked with?
Now I look back on it, it sucks but it was a flip of Rawlins out at Mandurah.
I was stoked because this was the first time I had ever seen a pro in flesh!
who are your favourite riders to shoot?
I like shooting Brendon Backshall because you always know he will do something amazing! But on the more
underated side, people like Phil Winsor, Lewy Finnegan & Tom purvis are always blowing up.
what are your favourite breaks to shoot?
Womb, Evils & Gas. I like shooting Mandurah but pretty much every land angle has been taken.
water or land photography?
I haven't had much experience in shooting good waves from water, but what I have
shot has been super fun! Land is sick but it get's boring if your standing
on the beach by yourself without an iPod.
whats your opinion on photography outside of bodyboarding? Does it interest you?
what would you think is your main photography interests, outside of bodyboarding
(e.g. modelling, lifestyle, cooking, i dunno anything)
Panoramic/portraits is a field I am super keen to get into after working
at PhotoCoffee. Some of the work they have done is bullshit!

sum up perth in one word.
Gross
sum up down south in two words.
Hot girls
sum up anywhere else in three words.
Book my ticket
whats the photo you are most proud of?
One that you will see soon ;)
have you had any near death (actually that sounds gay), how about just generally
scary moments, while shooting? sharks? ten foot closeouts?
Not so much while shooting, but I paddled out this one day at maxing out supers and got caught on the inside and got
held down for quite a bit and was freaking out, after that I went in and went back to the hotel haha.
give a tip to young, budding photogs. (im guessing this
will involve tightening wingnuts haha)
Yeah pretty much don't do what Chris did haha
ok lets go a bit weirder now.
oKaY
give all the viewers an insight into your old school, coodanup.
It's not weird, it's just plain deadly. Pretty much woke up everyday, get dressed, have breakfast,
brush my teeth and then get dropped off at school and pray I don't get stabbed.
what are you doing now instead of school?
I am studying a Certificate in Photoimaging, Aspects of Tourism, Business Management
& Multimedia Production & Analysis at TAFE.
are you into partying?
It's sick but you have to be careful in Mandurah.
do you like pasta?
Pasta cup is joy
what about muesli bars?
Uncle Toby's white choc chip!
in a biskits?
<3

i've noticed your blog is going strong, what motivates you to keep it running
compared to all the people that fail within 2 weeks of starting it?
Pretty much because I enjoy reading other peoples blogs and 95% of the time
when I'm home
I'm on my computer.
did you do woodwork or metalwork?
Woodwork.
ew
just like the question before, but not regarding photography... any scary
things happened outside of shooting? meth addicted zombies? punch ups?
way to many that I can't post unless mum reads ha
do you play "farmville"?
I'd rather kill myself (Sorry Chuck & Dalmi)
anyway, i will leave it at that.
24/12/09. LOSS OF A LEGEND
Today, the 24th, marks the loss of yet another bodyboarding legend.
WADE MCCURDY.
Wade was only 20 when he jumped of a local bridge in Mandurah
early this morning with his best mates. However, Wade never surfaced.
To the McCurdy family, I send my condolences and hope all friends and family
cope well through this time of year.
Wade, I will always miss filming your
inverts out at wedge.
Rest.In.Peace
18/12/09. PHOTOS ROLL
next in line for the photographer interviews is Chris Gurney. I probably
met him ages ago at wedge or something, and he is one of the coolest and nicest guys
in WA. never one to bar you or blank you, even though he reeks of wig.
he also takes amazing photos and has had many publications in riptide, movement and
now le boogie and the movement photo annual. yew
no, this is not chris gurney. this is mega-flat-cregged-rev-doer brendo backshall
introduce yourself.
Hi Im Chris Gurney, 18 years old. Work in an IGA supermarket.
Never meet me. You will be disappointed.
hes lying. meet him.
where are you from.
Floreat, Perth, Western Australia. the 6014! Better than Trigg, Cott, Scarborough.. etc etc.
hmm i would have to agree on that. tow central for you.
when did you start shooting?
about 2004 i guess. then a year or 2 after that i began doing it semi-seriously.
do you remember when you first seriously thought about being a bodyboard photographer?
I dont know really, i dont think i have yet! theres basically no chance of making a living out
of it which sucks, but at least everyone who does it does it because they love it and not for money.
i guess maybe last year i thought that i really want to improve my photos and
try and get stuff published a bit more often.

do you remember your first shot that you were stoked with?
Nope not really, i remember always being stoked with the shittest photos! didnt matter if it was a
crappy
1ft onshore shorebreak with some random dude sliding out, I definitely had pretty low
standards.
Maybe that was a good thing. Being able to go and shoot crap waves down
the road in Perth and actually be frothing would be nice.
heres some that I, and definitely others, are keen to see what you have to say.
who are your favourite riders to shoot?
The best guys of course, I'm sure the riders would say the same about shooting with the best
photographers
like Rod and Toinz. So guys like Rawlins, BP, Novy, Hubb, Hardy etc.
just because it doesnt happen
often and theyre always up a level on everyone. At the moment
I'm loving shooting
with Brendon Backshall. Looking forward to working with
him a bit more this summer.
what are your favourite breaks to shoot?
Mitchells Wedge even though I've never shot it! Had to watch a pretty good day there earlier this year
with just Brendo
Newton and Pyneo out because I didnt have a camera as
I'd just flooded it (check gurney's advice) . That sucked.
Apart from there, Teahupoo is incredible and another little reef wedge in Tahiti.
water or land photography?
Neither of them is better than the other, It just depends on the conditions i guess. I think I'm more
comfortable shooting from land than water right now though.
whats your opinion on photography outside of bodyboarding? Does it interest you?
what would you
think is your main photography interests, outside
of bodyboarding
(e.g. modelling, lifestyle, cooking, i dunno anything)
It interests me massively, more than bodyboarding photography itself. When I do
eventually set-up a website I want it
to be mostly non-bodyboard stuff. I love good portrait
photography. Have a look at the galleries
(all of them! its worth it..) at http://www.ryanmcginley.com/
I think his photos are amazing, they sum up youth and adventure.
sum up perth in one word.
isolated
sum up down south in two words.
laid back
sum up anywhere else in three words.
Tahiti - heaven on earth
whats the photo you are most proud of?
Theres not 1 photo I dont think. Theres 2 from Tahiti earlier this year I'm partial to though. This
one of
Paulo Barcellos in the best barrel I've ever seen, at Teahupoo. And this looking
out POV shot of
Jeff Hubbard at another wave called Taapuna in Tahiti. Getting a
good shot of someone I've looked
upto my whole life (and never ever thought I'd
go on a trip with)
was really cool.

have you had any near death (actually that sounds gay), how about just generally
scary moments, while shooting? sharks? ten foot closeouts?
Nothing too hectic at all, I think the scariest one was at Teahupoo when i first swam out on the
biggest day
we had there. There hadnt been any sets and it looked about 6ft. So I was
sitting way too far in.
This big west set came through and I had to scratch through it.
Felt like I was going to get sucked back but I didnt.
I was shitting myself.
give a tip to young, budding photogs. (im guessing this will involve tightening wingnuts haha)
Tighten your wingnuts on your housing haha! double/triple check all your settings
before you seal up your housing. If the waves are pumping and you're going to shoot
water
dont rush when you set everything up. Getting everything done right
and losing 5 minutes
is a lot better than getting out there and having to swim in and
change something and losing half an hour.
Avoid looking directly into Kim Feast's eyes or you
will turn to stone. And also dont listen to the riders
advice when youre shooting if you think
what you're doing is right, you're the one who shoots photos.
Trust yourself.
Dont get facebook.
wise words
ok lets go a bit weirder now.
how was the churchlands (yep, him and alex miller went to the same school) year 12 ball?
Ah fuck that was so long ago haha! It was alright, I was amped to get a massive meal
but the food sucked! Wearing a suit is pretty cool though.

are you into partying?
Not really..People can just be loud, annoying.. and loud and annoying. Multiply this by the number of people at a
party or club and you basically have a nightmare scenario. Introduce popped collars, fake tan,
Ed Hardy clothes and southern cross tattoos into the equation and shit is just out of hand.
dont forget nike hats pointed skywards..
do you like pasta?
I love it. Ravioli is the best.
hell yeah you need to come where I work, Chez Frederic. best duck ravioli ever.
what about muesli bars?
Black and Gold choc chip used to be good. They upped the price and downed the size though..
in a biskits?
Those chicken drumstick ones (are they even in a biskits?).. I used to think they were meant
to be fish flavour or something. They look like little fish.
ahaha so true

i've noticed your blog is going strong, what motivates you to keep it running compared
to all the people that fail within 2 weeks of starting it?
I guess its just a good place to put up the photos that you dont send to the mags/that
get knocked back that normally wouldnt get seen by anyone.
Maybe I like talking/typing too much as well. Probably that.
did you do woodwork or metalwork?
Ah I did woodwork at school but I was shit at it. Bit of a retard with those kind of things.
ewww
just like the question before, but not regarding photography... any scary
things happened outside of shooting? meth addicted zombies? punch ups?
Maybe anytime I see Alex Halsey in real life pretty much think hes a zombie for a good minute
or two until I realise! He comes at you hissing and foaming and with red eyes.
Ryan Donovans 1978 afro/mustache combo is pretty scary. Tom Jennings and
his striking praying mantis-esque appearance. Old people drivers.
do you play "farmville"?
Have never played it. Computer games are shit
GOOD!
yewwwwwwwwwwww
p.s surfed crappy wedge on thursday morning. got up at 530 hoping for a fun sesh but no,
1 ft closeouts were the only thing on offer.
got basically no good fisheye shots but ill throw up some random shots that i find, yew
15/12/09. FASTER THAN YOU THINK
heres a skating comp from a place called 'the wedge' in arizona.
even if you dont skate you should definitely watch it, its a competition to see
who can do the fastest flatland tricks. very entertaining.
well, im off to mandurah for a bit so i will see you later, friday actually,
with an interview with Chris Gurney.
yew!
14/12/09. LET THE GAMES BEGIN.
I will begin my trilogy of photographer interviews with Alex Miller.
check his blog at: http://milleralex.blogspot.com/
(NOTE: the below interview has not been manipulated or changed. I have
added in a few reply comments but thats about it.
RAW POWERFUL TECHNICAL THRASH!
I write in the bold while Alex writes in regular)
note: this is not a photo of alex.
this is another wig, who goes by the name of 'AK'.
and this is a DAMN sick shot!
sup dog
ill start the interview with some cliche questions that no one wants to hear,
but are kinda necessary anyway.
OK hit me
introduce yourself.
Hi im Alex Miller. I am a professional barista by trade and take photos of people lying on foam
where are you from.
Scarborough , last place you wanna be from
when did you start shooting?
A couple of years ago
do you remember when you first seriously thought about being a bodyboard photographer?
When I realised I wasn't making it in bodyboarding haha
do you remember your first shot that you were stoked with?
Me and Chris (Gurney) went to Albany when we were like 14 and the
swell was over 5 metres and we checked out heaps of cool bays and that.
This one wave in particular we came across was so photogenic, I found a
little gap in some trees and a shed roof and there it was.
heres some questions that I, and definitely others, are keen to see what you have to say.

who are your favourite riders to shoot?
Alex Halsey, that kids getting way too good at this shit. So unpredictable
and explosive in any sort of waves. Then again Josh (Garner), Wade (Mccurdy), and all
the older dudes are ripping harder than ever
what are your favourite breaks to shoot?
Anywhere different haha Mandurah is getting so repetitive and its just the same shit, everyones photos are
starting to look the same
water or land photography?
Land has its ups and downs but water is probably more fun.
Except when its freezing cold and theres seals around
whats your opinion on photography outside of bodyboarding?
Does it interest you? what would you think is your main photography interests, o
utside of bodyboarding (e.g. modelling, lifestyle, cooking, i dunno anything)
I'd like to branch out a bit more in what I shoot. Skateboarding is something
that I can definitely see myself heavily involved with in the next couple years. The photography
in that is actually challenging, working with what ever light you have and uses of flashes,
different focal lengths etc, where as bodyboarding your out in the open and light isn't an issue
sum up perth in one word.
Sess-pit
sum up down south in two words.
So boring
sum up anywhere else in three words.
Take me there
whats the photo you are most proud of?
This one at Box I shot ealier this year. I shot 50mm and almost got sucked over
but the photo looks insane im so stoked with it
have you had any near death (actually that sounds gay), how about just
generally scary moments, while shooting? sharks? ten foot closeouts?
Gunsons head dive to face plant at Rotto Box was pretty insane, I thought we
were all gonna get eaten by sharks on the way in, there was that much blood in the water…
sounds gnar!
give a tip to young, budding photogs.
Lenses over Bodies
ok lets go a bit weirder now.
OK
how was the churchlands year 12 ball?
Pretty loose, the Dfloor got a going over that night
are you into partying?
Yeah its fun but theres always the shady characters you see around here
that wear nike hats and striped polo shirts that are just out for fights
do you like pasta?
Mmmm is Mi Goreng classified as pasta
what about muesli bars?
The yogurt ones are bullshit
in a biskits?
(no reply, he has obviously not tasted Big Cheese flavour)
hows perry lakes treating you? (the skatepark that is)
Haha shes doing alright. I'm hoping they'll build on it, that article in
the paper you probably saw in the paper explains it. Street course
not fussed about, but lights would be all time
you DEFINITELY need street...
did you do woodwork or metalwork?
Nah man I did cooking
thank god.
just like the question before, but not regarding photography... any scary
things happened outside of shooting? meth addicted zombies? punch ups?
One time I saw a car crash happen literally in front of me and the dude almost died after the brick
wall fell on the car, he stumbled out of the car so pissed and me and dad ran over to him to help him sit down.
Blood was waterfalling out the back of his head down his back and I think the
seatbelt fucked him up
because he was struggling to fill his lungs with air. Then heaps of people started
rocking up and ambulances and a
fire truck and shit it was so hectic and
it seriously changed my mind about getting in the car with someone drunk
do you play "farmville"?
Haha pass
phew.
anyway, i will leave it at that.
Thanks for the interview,
p.s. Perrys is better than Nedlands
p.p.s MUNCHIES is better than both of those put together.
13/12/09. AN END HAS A START.
school is over. holidays are here.
wedge banks are here. low tides are here. sea breezes are here!
I've just come back from a stint in rotto that many dub "juvie leavers"
super gay name I know, but it was fun nonetheless (except for the reef sticking out
of the water, strong SE winds and 1 metre swells).
But now I'm in perth, preparing myself and my camera gear
for a solid 2 months of chasing waves (which hopefully arise)
*
All you have to do is sit back and enjoy the constant flow of
frames and mini clips.
Guaranteed, if theres waves, frames will flow to you faster than you can
say "yew". or perhaps "wig". or even "yew, youre a wig!".
actually nah thats kind of awkward to say.
but anyway, you get it!
*
Currently in the pipeline is interviews with my favourite west oz photographer friends,
and skating wig (kind of, not really, but i guess he can switch tre) jake stone.
**WEDGE STORY 1
both of these frames are from one of the best wedge days last year. It was possibly the most crowded
and documented day, with wigs including Ben Player, Tom Smith, Brad Hughes, Adam Luehman
and others shredding the numerous ramps and barrels. At the top is Brad Hughes, rushing a barrel
that was just before I left. I forgot to put it in my movie, but watching the footage again I can
hear Chris Steffenetti saying "lucky you miller" when he cleanly exits and powers through a hack
rev on the shoulder. at the bottom is lesser-wig Tom O'Brien, who managed to snag this heavy
closeout set just
before onshores arrived. This was also at the end of the session
and was also forgotten from my movie, allthough still remembered by everyone on the rocks as one
of the weirdest, craziest invert/flip/whatever tricks done.
more wedge stories soon when I get my act together!
17/11/09. SMOKE N MIRRORS
lately ive been really inspired by the work of video artist TV Moore.
its hard to find his stuff on the internet but im doing an essay on him and
his stuff is amazing.
CHUCKY MIRROR TV MOORE FANGLES

16/10/09. 20 DAYS
Its been 20 days since my last post on this thing.
Shameful? Probably.
But in 20 days a lot has happened.

In 20 days our family has moved house. I havent had internet for about 12
days, hence the lack of updates.
however,
we are still situated in cottesloe
(aka land of the poo waves).
however now i have luxuries like a pool and a big tv
(with foxtel!)
so im currently quite stoked.
In 20 days there has been next to no surf.
I had one fun wedge session where I got some
yewan mckegors, apart from
that its been flat.
I look at Todd Barnes' THRASHD blog with jealousy,
look at the killer waves the south coast has been getting.
Even if he the south
coast has
been flat, look at the footage
he has anyway!! gnarly. I've got nothing to show you,
ive barely filmed for my next movie as ive been patiently waiting for surf that is
WORTHY. key word, WORTHY. enough of filming pooey trigg
and onshore swanny that "has banks".
I'm waiting for trips down south and wedge cobras to rear their ugly
heads.

In 20 days I've been skating alot.
Now I know most of you dont care, but i'm in the process of editing
some skating footage ive collected over a few days and its kinda cool.

In 20 days I've been working on year 12 stuff.
Chosing art, design and media has been one of the best decisions i've made,
and everyday at school im getting increasingly inspired by designers and artists
around the place. expect to see cool changes to the website.
(P.S, the eye and the hands are framies taken from my surrealist
video installation which ive been working on for TEE art.)

In 20 days I bring you this.
A post lacking in substance and quality,
and a bunch of random frames from better days and perhaps
some things you might not see on an everyday bodyboarder's blog.
yewwwwwwww
P.S I HEAR YOU CALLING
WHEN IS WEEDY SANGLES, THE LATEST ADDITION OF THE
FANGLES COLLECTION OUT?
WHEN IS THAT THROWAWAY CLIP YOU MENTIONNED GONNA BE
READY?
Well basically, here is the true and honest answer.
I havent filmed enough footage to finish them.
I have heaps of shorey footage but when it is cut down tightly, it doesnt fill a whole
song.
I dont haven enough throwaway footage because I'm saving stuff for resumes
and perhaps the real deal.
so WAIT!
27/10/09. RANDAG
random frames from the past.
the reason they have been heavily edited and manipulated is that
some of these clips may be appearing in my next feature film:
"CHIKO ROLLS AND BAZ LURHMANNS"
out in a while.

p.s its a joke
7/10/09. TRAMPBOARDING VOLUME 2
After a long wait, its finally ready.
Trampboarding, Volume 2.
I'm seriously considering that this may just be one
the best internet clip i've ever made.
(hint: to make the movie super epic, listen with volume up)
22/9/09. SOUL

WEEDY SANGLES CLIP IS ON ITS WAY

STAY TUNED
18/9/09. NEWS.PAPER
I recently headed over to Davis Blackwell's blog, only to see a picture
of him and George Humphries in the newspaper, dubbed as the next big things!
Yewww, I'm stoked for you guys, but I think the paper missed out on
two important characters:

THY CHUCK & THY DALMI!!
I've been gathering footage over the past while and these two
characters have been blowing up (much like wingers and georgos),
with sick styles
and skills. But your gonna
have to wait and see the footage!
yeww.

PS. TRAMPBOARDING VIDEO is nearly finished!
I have edited the whole thing except one last trick that will be
placed at the end, I'm gonna need some serious
staging and preparation for it!
GET AMPED
10/9/09. BOOGIE BOARDING...ON THE TRAMPOLINE!
Today I stayed home from school to study for exams (next week) and to
edit a new trampboarding clip!
I knocked up a short preview to get you guys amped for
the super-fisheye-slowmo-weird-angles. Its gonna
be quite different to the last one in regards to filming, so
get psyched for it, should be ready later on this week/next week.

1/9/09. WHATS UP WITH...
Everyone's sudden obsession DVS Skate and Create.
Sure its sick, and the 2009 one probably one of the most amazing
skate videos I've seen, but why are people posting the old
one on their blogs? Thats been out for a solid year now. And that
one isnt even that creative, just check the others for proof.
On the subject of skate & create, I really wish bodyboard filmers
could do that sort of thing. Who knows, maybe it will happen
some time.... Perhaps a room of mirrors
and a slab of concrete on the
ground will create a perfect warping bowl when a rushing onset of an
artificial wave is added?? We can only hope.
Anyway, watch this, In my opinion it is much more creative
than DVS S&C #1, such a shame Emerica wasnt
picked to make another one this year.
YEAH G-CODE
HALT
Lack of waves/posts/filming/fun has been occuring in my life.
Abundance of work/study/assignments has taken its place.
I havent found the time to sift through hundreds of changu clips and find
suitable frames for this site- I also figured that the whole Bali thing was
getting a bit tedious and you wanted action.
WELL HERES ACTION
Locals from a while back, featuring Chucky "Norris" Carter,
Calvin
"dallas" Best and Jackson "yowie" Best.
more collages soon.
ALSO NOTE:
2 clips are in the process.
1: A clip of some random stuff that probably wont make the cut for my next
film due to a raising of the bar. yew.
2: FANGLE COLLECTION EPISODE 3
WEEDY SANGLES.
GET AMPED!
BALI DIARY- MON 13th
Went to Padang Padang again, this time without forgetting suncream, or anything
crucial to our surfing capabilities. I decided to water film as it was smaller and
looked fun. I decided to bar the freeswim/fisheye shoot and brought my board for
some long lens action. The surfers got the best ones but the jackal and kelly
managed to snag some sick ones. I got super sunburnt on my back due to a
fine gap between my boardies and rashie, but I'm still happy with
the results. yew!

BALI DIARY- SUN 12th
Padang was big and crowded, about
40 people out. : o
Not many waves were caught by jumpin jack and
dancing dalmi, who were both witless
of dropping
in on some balinese uber charger. Fair enough.
We didnt stay for long because Jack forgot the
suncream. When we went home
Jack forgot
his bag. We had another shop and got 3 more bans.
We then had a sick surf at out the front at a sick little reforming left wedge.

BALI DIARY- SAT 11th
Slept in today. Surfed out the front,
it was pretty fun doing spins at the rip bohem.
Padang is meant to be sick tommorow so we are planning that
tommorow. Bought another 6 bans, and also
some 'Pocky' and Tim Tams.
no frames worth showing today, unless
you want to see pictures of the food...
nahh....
BAN COUNT 19
BALI DIARY- FRI 10th
Surfed/filmed Canggu today. It was pretty fun but powerful
rips dominated the line up, so Dallas and Yowie struggled to
get in a good postion for the wedging rights on offer.
Dave Fox was out, and he surfed it well, always in the right spot
but blowing many
bowls.
I was extremely suprised at the amount of dogs around Canggu,
there was literally always one in sight, sometimes packs of 4 or 5
chilling in the shade.

Tad dissapointed with today's footage outcome, but I had a fun surf
racing the bigger rights.
We went home and surfed Padmas again, it was fun
but nothing worth filming.
Returned to ban ave, scored 6 more. yew
BAN COUNT: 13

BALI DIARY- THURS 9th
No footage today. Had a fun surf at 'Padmas', out the front our hotel
the Padma. It was massive out the back, but a fun, right re-form ripbowl
popped up and threw up some fun waves. It was a bit fat, but good
for me to re-learn how to spin. yew!
Buffet breaky was sick.
We went out and scoped the shops outside the hotel- bans* galore!
Scored 7 of them between us.
BAN COUNT: 7

BALI DIARY- WED 8th
We arrive at the airport 1 hour early, for some reason we thought
the plan was at 6:30, rather than 7:30. It was too early to
check in. We killed some time playing pinball and
racing.

We checked in, went into the Quantas lounge
.
The lady at the counter (who assumed we were flying on Garuda)
told us the plane (the Garuda flight) was delayed until 8:30.
A final call was sent out and we finally realised, we bailed to the terminal
and found out "we had missed the plane".
Luckily, we were let on by a cool captain and hours later, arrived
in Bali. woo

RIP
Well this is a huge suprise which I just found out from
fellow filmer Nic Barclay, but Andrew Turnham (who I traded
footage with, shown below), recently died of a cardiac arrest.
He was a great man and I really enjoyed talking to him,
and I thank him so much for the footage we traded
and for the conversations we had.
I send out my condolences, rest in peace.
back
I'm back from Bali and I had a sick time.
Fun surfs/film seshs were had at Padang and Canggu.
Calv and Jack got some cool waves, and we stumbled
upon Dave Fox at Canggu who was blazing.
In Bali I kept a diary, and made an entry documenting the day
I will soon post the entries and the frames
that coincide with the events I speak about.
But first I will have to load on all the footage, something that will
happen tonight and tommorow.
So have fun looking at these frames while you wait.
The frames are from footage which I traded with
Port Mac filmer Andrew Turnham, and the waves will feature
in my movie.

EXCLUSIVE JONO BRUCE INTERVIEW
Well, you've all been wondering whats happened with jono
and his perfect cregs and sick style.....here he is.
read for an insight into his life and some interesting answers!
1. Basically, everyones been wondering what made you disappear after the Visions vids..
What actually happened during that time?
i was just looking for different stuff in my life and i had just had a pretty good run with my surfing
so i had been saticfied with my acheivments in that area...but i was looking for something more...
i have allways been into music ever since i was ten and allways wanted to play guitar
and be in a band so i set out about
learning guitar and improving my social life...just partying
and experincing that different kinda lifestyle that i had never fully been involved in.
2. Are you still as passionate about bodyboarding as you were during the Visions phase?
well i still like bodyboarding all the same but i deffinatley dont have the drive to do
it as full on as i once did...these days it would b rare to find me out in 1 ft slop practicing spins
and that but when the waves are good ill b out there and im amped
to do trips when one pops up that sounds interesting and with a cool crue
3. Do you plan on making a comeback into the bodyboard scene, much like Tom Robinson?
not really like that grimsly seams to b setting out about world domination...
.i just wanna get on a few trips and just enjoy the ocean and riding waves and help
promote my sponsor inverted cos they r the ones helping get on the trips
and helping bodyboard in the local aera
4. Ever since your Visions 1 section, bodyboarders all around australia dubbed you as one of
the most stylish riders to ever bodyboard. Did you actually try hard to achieve that
style or did it all come naturally?
tried real fuckin hard hey maybe some of it came natrally but there was definatly alot of slowing
down hardy sections on the vcr and then slowing down footage of my self and trying to compare it....
and basicly thats how i got my style and then after awhile i didnt really have to b so intense with it
and i just cruise and just surfed how i surfed and somehow all these ppl tell me its one of the most
stylish riding ever which is a heavy call..hardy,skip,stewart and tully beavour are in m
y opinion the most stylish riders ever so im apmed that ppl same im up there
5. Are you still focused on style these days?
What is your opinion on the Australian new gen's focus on flat cregs and generally technical riding?
when im on a wave im still amped to try ride it good and make the most of it but like i said
before im deffinatly not practicing it everyday i just taker it as it comes and try to get out
there when its good or if im hell keen n havent surfed in ages ill go out for a bit in some pretty crap waves with my mates
there are some pretty kick ass riders all over australia these days its really good
to see that they are all amped on boosting n stylish riding...im heaps amped on
the dirrection that the iamnone dudes are going with
there vids and mattic and his shit he is doing is fucking rad aswell.

update on podcasts: i am currently attempting to put the videos
on itunes but it is harder than I thought... ill keep trying
the fangles collection
While im collecting footage
and generally filming
random stuff for my next
project, ive decided to
create a cool little, non
serious podcast!!
Ill try get it on itunes
so you can put it on your
ipods and watch to get
amped for sick sessions.
It'll be a bit of fun, just
random fisheye footage
(or i should say, random
fangles*) from sessions
with local guys.
The first episode is "Cheft Fangles", and I
have just completed
my second clip, "Down
South Mangles" (each
podcast
has its own
little name
associated
with angles). You can
view it in the videos section
All podcasts are strictly
fisheye footage, which
is easily my favourite form
of filming.
YEWWW
* fangles= fisheye angles
**mangles= mahems
fisheye angles.
mahems
is a secret spot known for
its heaving pits and wild,
sandy beasts.
its location is
only known by a select few.
